Desiring the Mindset of Babes

Jesus said in relation to His disciples, a prayer to the Father, in Matthew 11:25 ‘At that time Jesus answered and said “I praise Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth that Thou didst hide these things from the wise and intelligent and didst reveal them to babes (or infants)”.

Here we see that God gives revelation to babes and hides it from the wise and intelligent. Knowledge can be taught but revelation is given from above. Matthew 16:17 ‘And Jesus answered and said to him” Blessed are you Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.” Galatians 1:12 ‘For I neither received it from man nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ’

Paul prays for the Ephesians in Ephesians 1:17 ‘that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him’.

We all have received a revelation that Jesus is our Savior and has died for our sins, many in the world have not received this revelation. We can receive the revelation of God’s love for us, the humility of Jesus, the Grace of Jesus etc. Are we getting revelation in the knowledge of Him or is our knowledge restricted to hearing messages and our study of the Bible.

Jesus told Peter “Blessed are you”, so revelations always bring a blessing & encouragement in the Lord.

Knowledge puffs up the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 8:1, but love edifies.

Revelation from God can also make us exalt ourselves over those who we think do not have revelation about particular aspects in Christian life. But God who gives the revelation also sends a thorn in the flesh so that we will be humble and give God the glory. 1 Corinthians 4:7 “For who regards you as superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?”

We see in the Word of God, during the time of Jesus, Nathaniel, Peter and the other disciples, Simeon, Anna, the three wise men, the shepherds, John the Baptist, Zachariah, Elizabeth, Joseph & Mary, the Samaritan woman, Mary Magdalene, Zacchaeus, the thief on the cross and others received a revelation that Jesus was the Messiah and were able to follow His teachings. Most others in Israel including the Pharisees, Sadducees, Herodians,  religious and political people were not able to recognize Jesus as the Messiah and understand what He taught and came for. These were the people who were responsible for crucifying Jesus.

The example of Nathaniel & the Pharisees shows clearly the difference between revelation & knowledge. From the knowledge of scriptures , Nathaniel said “ Can any good thing come out of Nazereth” but on hearing Jesus , he got a revelation that He was the Son of God , the Pharisees on the other hand, had the same knowledge and said “ Search, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee” . As they had no revelation from God , they opposed Jesus.

What are the qualities of babes or infants , that we can desire to have in our lives?

They are helpless and dependent on others, they do not think much of themselves or imagine that they know better than others, their minds are pure & innocent. 1 Corinthians 14:20 “Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature”. They long for milk and cry out for the same.1 Peter 2:2. They give praise to God Matthew 21:16” Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise for Yourself'?"

May God help us to have the qualities of a babe or an infant so that we may know Him and His ways more.
